Baby Massage - The Benefits for You & Your Baby

Baby massage is a wonderful way to enhance physical and emotional bonding with your baby. It involves stroking your baby’s body with your hands, in a calm, reassuring, rhythmical way.

Classes are a great way to meet other new mums, or you can choose private sessions if you prefer.

I’m Claire, the founder of Salix Therapies. As a mum of two, as well as being a qualified therapist, I know how much there is to be gained from baby massage. I’m often asked what those benefits are. So, I thought I’d share the answers here, on my blog, as well as giving you an insight into my own mum journey, that led to starting my business.

The benefits of massage for babies

The calming gentle touch of baby massage will build a form of communication with your baby, leading to them feeling more loved, cared for, and protected. It can also improve their cognitive, physiological, emotional, and social development. Babies who receive sensory stimulation, often show increased alertness and attentiveness

Baby massage at Salix Therapies

Based in Wymondham in Norfolk, we carry out our face-to-face baby massage sessions in a variety of forms, designed to suit your circumstances and preferences. As a mum myself, I know how important it is to be in a setting where you and your baby can feel relaxed and comfortable and we’re all different. Some women prefer a more private, one-one session, others enjoy the opportunity for social interaction with other new mums.

We work through baby massage classes:

During lockdown and for those of you who are not local, I also offer online baby massage sessions, via Zoom. These sessions can also be delivered 1–1 or in a group.

Baby massage courses are carried out over 5 sessions which build up week on week and can be tailored to areas that mums need extra support with at that time, eg. for babies who are teething, we can look at techniques based around massaging the face and the outside of the jaw, to soothe and support babies through this transition.

Why choose Salix Therapies?

I care about my clients and families. As a mum myself, I’m keen to help other mums on their journey too, by sharing my knowledge and experience. Therapies are tailored to meet the needs of my clients — as a result, clients return regularly. My qualifications include:

My personal mum journey

As the founder of Salix Therapies, my passion is working with mums through the transition of pregnancy and new motherhood. I love working with mums, babies, and children, in face-to-face settings and knowing that I am helping other families to bond and grow together.

Baby massage helped me through my own post-natal depression. Both of my own daughters were born prematurely and I had a traumatic labour with my eldest daughter. I was initially frightened to hold her because she was so tiny. Baby massage gave me the confidence to build that physical bond with her, enhancing our emotional connection too.

I trained as a baby massage therapist, as I wanted to help other new mums to develop a bond with their babies in this same way.

Our massage sessions for mums are not just confined to our baby massage classes. We can work together on your journey through pregnancy, the newborn stages, and beyond!

Pregnancy massage, from the 2nd trimester onwards, can help expectant mums with relaxation and pain relief. Story massage for mums and tots, can take that wonderful bond through childhood. Finally, as a busy mum, why not book a massage for yourself? You deserve some pampering and relaxation too! By looking after yourself, you’ll have more strength and energy to look after your growing family.
